Earlier today chaos struck Jackson Avenue when a car crash caused a major standstill, putting a pause to the morning rush. As per WREG's report, the Memphis Police Department was alerted to the accident at around 6:40 a.m., leading to an immediate shutdown of the busy artery. The Memphis artery was completely blocked off at the intersection of Jackson and Bayliss avenues, handcuffing all five lanes in both directions.
Traffic was brought to a standstill as drivers were urged to find alternative routes by authorities. According to the information acquired by FOX13 Memphis, the Memphis Police (MPD) provided guidance, imploring the public to avoid the area until the roads could be cleared.
The cause of the accident and the condition of those involved remained undisclosed. No further details about the crash were released by police as the investigation is ongoing. The extent of possible injuries or the number of vehicles involved has not been made public.
The latest updates prompt a sigh of relief suggesting that the ubiquitous clog might loosen as cleanup efforts were reported underway. As communicated by Action News 5, officials are hard at work to reopen lanes and restore the flow of traffic; however, an exact time when lanes will reopen has not yet been announced.
