A West Lawn neighborhood turned tragic on a Sunday night when a 56-year-old man was struck and killed in a hit-and-run incident, Chicago police reported.
Police told The Chicago Tribune that the pedestrian was crossing South Pulaski Road eastbound at 64th Street when he was hit by a northbound red Toyota Camry around 11:45 p.m. The vehicle, identified by witnesses as speeding, failed to stop after the collision, delivering the man major head and body trauma, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. As of now, police have not made any arrests.
A witness account given to officers and cited by Fox32Chicago mentioned that the sedan, in a high-velocity motion, did not pause its onslaught after the severe impact. Thus leaving the scene with an air of indifference to the human wreckage wrought upon the pavement.
Adding to the ongoing investigation, CBS Chicago reported the vehicle may have been a 2012 Chevrolet bearing Illinois plates, numbered V455842, this detail brings with it a glimmer of hope towards potential leads that may yet render justice. While the authorities continue to solicit the public's help, the perpetrator remains at large, leaving behind a scene marked by an indelible human absence.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they seek to piece together the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident. The Chicago police investigation is active and ongoing.
