A man has been taken into custody after a standoff with Monroe County deputies following a reported shooting in Frenchtown Township, Michigan. According to WXYZ, the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon near N. Stony Creek Road and N. Dixie Highway. The deputies were called to the scene after a victim claimed to have been fired upon with a shotgun after an argument in a yard.
As the situation developed, authorities believed the 38-year-old suspect remained in the home, leading to the setup of a perimeter and the deployment of a drone for aerial surveillance. FOX 2 Detroit reported that the Monroe County Special Response Team was called in, and subsequently, a search warrant was executed. Two individuals, a man and a woman, have since been detained in connection with the incident.
No injuries were reported following an initial altercation or during the standoff. Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough told FOX 2 Detroit, "We were methodical on how we handled it. We don’t want anybody to get hurt, offenders, officers or even bystanders." The sheriff also detailed the utilization of drone technology in the operation, noting that a larger drone surveyed the scene from above while a smaller drone was sent into the structures to ensure the safe extraction of the individuals inside.
In an additional detail provided by WXYZ, it was revealed that multiple children were removed from the premises after the two adults were arrested. The suspect, meanwhile, is being held at the Monroe County Jail and faces charges of felonious assault. Reflecting on the history of incidents at the property, Sheriff Goodnough relayed to FOX 2 Detroit that "We’ve had a considerable number of calls for service to this residence over the years."
