Man Clings to Life After Unfolding Shooting Spree in Broward County, Lauderhill Seeks a Turnaround with Peace InitiativeSource: Google Street View

A man was left fighting for his life after a shooting that raged across three Broward County neighborhoods yesterday afternoon. Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) deputies found the victim inside a vehicle with life-threatening gunshot wounds on Oakland Park Boulevard in Lauderhill, although they say the shooting happened miles away in Lauderdale Lakes.

As reported by Local 10, the chaotic scene unfolded around 3:30 p.m., starting in the 5100 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard where the man was originally shot. Authorities believe the injured man then somehow managed to drive to the Lauderhill location where he was discovered. The violent incident caused significant traffic backups while investigators closely examined a bullet-riddled BMW with shattered sunroof and open back doors at the center of the case.

The strife doesn't appear to be an isolated incident. Lauderhill Commissioner Melissa Dunn noted that the city recorded nine homicides in 2023 — a sobering climb from just three the year prior. "I believe you’re gonna see a change in Lauderhill,” Dunn stated in a NBC Miami interview, reflecting on an upcoming initiative, Lauderhill Peace 365, set to launch today.

The comprehensive initiative is to ambitiously tackle the city's spike in gun violence by combining increased policing with community engagement and conflict resolution workshops. “Any one of those things isolated by itself will not move the needle, but when you combine them, when you combine great policing with technology, with community involvement and with a movement that really encourages people to shift their mindset," Dunn was quoted as saying. Detailed information about the shooter or the motive behind the shooting has yet to be released by the BSO.

Investigators continue to probe the incident, calling upon witnesses or anyone with information on the shooting to step forward. Tips can be anonymously submitted to Broward County Crime Stoppers by dialing 954-493-TIPS, according to statements given to both news outlets.
