Tragedy struck in the Corridor neighborhood of San Diego when a man was gunned down in the early hours of Tuesday morning, authorities said. A 33-year-old Hispanic male was found with a fatal gunshot wound in the courtyard of an apartment complex on 36th St, according to the San Diego Police Department.

The victim, whose identity has not been released pending family notifications, was pronounced dead at a local hospital. San Diego police quickly zeroed in on a suspect, Edgar Sanchez, 32, who is believed to have shot the man in what seems to be an unprovoked attack. Detectives mentioned that Sanchez apprehended later in the day, has relatives residing at the same complex.

Officers from the SDPD's Mid-City Division were called to the scene after the shooting was reported at 2:26 a.m. Their efforts to save the man were in vain, as his injuries proved too severe. Described as a senseless act of violence, the suspect allegedly approached the victim on foot before opening fire and fleeing the scene.

While still canvassing the neighborhood for evidence, detectives spotted Sanchez at approximately 9 a.m. the same day. Upon his arrest, a firearm was uncovered in his possession, leading to his booking into County Jail on a murder charge. At present, law enforcement does not suspect the involvement of others, according to the police report.

Authorities are urging anyone with further information about the incident to contact the Homicide Unit or, to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers.
