A man was shot and killed outside a Kids Foot Locker in Chicago's Chatham neighborhood, marking the latest act of violence in the area. The deadly encounter happened Thursday evening when, according to ABC7 Chicago, a 29-year-old man was shot as he got into his car on the 8600 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue.
The shooter, reportedly firing from inside a blue car before it sped away, struck the man once in the face and twice in the lower body. The area, frequented by families and shoppers, was rocked by the sound of gunfire around 7:20 P.M. In critical condition, he was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital where, despite efforts to save him, he died from his injuries.
Chicago police are on the hunt for the suspects, with no arrests made so far. The investigation is ongoing, with officers canvassing the scene late into the night. CBS News Chicago noted that the victim was working as a security guard, a profession that has seen repeated tragedy in this very location.
