Shoppers at a Colma shopping center witnessed more action than usual when a man attempted to make off with over $500 in stolen goods. The Colma Police Department dispatched their officers to the scene after being alerted by loss prevention officers at the store. The incident unfolded in the 5000 block of Junipero Serra Boulevard, where the thief was caught red-handed exiting the premises.
Not only did the perpetrator try to totally abscond with a significant haul of merchandise, but he was also found to be on postrelease community supervision and was wanted on a felony no-bail warrant from another county. According to the Colma Police Department's report, when the suspect left the store, officers promptly detained him.
The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Kendall Bourn from Springs, Texas, was not only caught with the stolen items but was also found in possession of a non-functioning taser, pepper spray, drug paraphernalia, and suspected methamphetamine during a subsequent search. Bourn has a history of prior felony convictions, further complicating his litany of offenses.
After being positively identified by the loss prevention staff as the thief, Bourn was arrested and booked into San Mateo County Jail, not only to harshly face his immediate charges but also the outstanding felony warrant. The total value of the merchandise he attempted to steal was approximately $515.20. Bourn now faces a litany of charges including petty theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of tear gas.
