A Loomis ATM service technician has been nabbed by Memphis police on allegations of pocketing a cool $13,000 from the very machines he was entrusted to keep flush with cash. The accused, Larison Payne, 38, was hit with a theft charge after a series of complaints regarding ATM shortages were linked directly to his servicing activities, according to Action News 5.
In what played out to be a low-key heist over time, Payne is accused of having systematically siphoned the funds, prompting an internal investigation by Loomis Loss Prevention and Security. Payne's alleged financial antics led to his arrest and subsequent booking at the Shelby County Jail, facing a charge of theft of property ranging between $10,000 and $60,000, as reported by WREG News. The investigation was purportedly triggered by several banks that detected discrepancies in their ATM caches, eventually zeroing in on the technician.
Details gathered by Loomis corporate investigators indicate that the string of thefts was not a random act of desperation but a calculated orchestration. A spreadsheet presented by the corporate investigator showed pronounced money shortages all neatly tied to Payne's service rounds. This spreadsheet became a pivotal piece of evidence, pointing straight at the service tech, as mentioned in the affidavit, as cited by Action News 5.
