
A Memphis Police Department officer was left in critical condition following a head-on collision on Interstate 40 over the weekend, as per local reports. The unfortunate incident occurred near the Danny Thomas Boulevard junction late Saturday night.
While responding to a midnight emergency, the officer's vehicle was met abruptly by another car, resulting in a severe crash. As the officer traveled southbound on Danny Thomas Boulevard, the collision unfolded when a vehicle headed northbound, aiming to merge onto I-40 West, collided head-on with them, WREG reports.
Following the incident, Memphis Police Department confirmed the officer was transported to Regional One Health hospital where their condition was deemed stable. The crash details, divulged by authorities, included that it happened shortly after midnight on March 30, as Local Memphis states.
The MPD has yet to release the identity of the officer involved, nor has it given further details about the condition of the other driver involved in the crash. According to officials cited by FOX13 Memphis, the vehicle that hit the officer had turned westbound, and the investigation into the specifics of the crash is ongoing.
