Memphis, Tennessee was shaken by a deadly mass shooting at a local block party last Saturday evening, leaving the community engulfed in grief as two people died and seven others suffered injuries. In an update that provided some relief, six of the hospitalized victims were reported in stable condition, and one was released, according to WIBW. The Memphis Police response to the Orange Mound Park tragedy continues, as investigators piece together the chaos that erupted among the 200 to 300 attendees of the ill-fated gathering.

Reverend Reginald Tucker, just less than half a mile away from the park when the gunfire broke out, expressed his disbelief to WREG, "I can’t believe a mass shooting,” and further said, "When they say mass shooting, do you know how deep that is?" Amid the aftermath, a resident lamented to WREG the sudden violence that ruptured the community, noting the quick escalation “They’re straight violent on a look, on a word, on anything. It goes straight (to) violence,”.

Interim Police Chief Cerelyn Davis briefed the public on Saturday night, revealing the lack of a permit for the block party and the involvement of at least two gunmen, as reported by WKRG. In an appeal for public assistance, she urged that anyone with video footage of the shooting come forward and send it to Memphis Police and reminded the community to reach out to CrimeStoppers with any relevant information.

Memphis Mayor Paul Young, early Saturday morning made an impassioned plea expressing a collective heartache and calling for a cessation of violence, "This morning, we are one community united by grief. We are all Orange Mound this morning. There are no words that can adequately express the pain we are all feeling over this most recent act of senseless violence - where guns were brazenly brought to a park filled with young people, families, and children. And there are no words to describe the frustration of having to use the qualifier ‘most recent’ when speaking of the violence in our community. This must stop. The violence must end. For the future of our city, we have to solve the problem together.", according to WIBW.

As of the latest reports, Memphis Police have not made any arrests in connection to the shooting. The police department had initially reported 16 victims but later corrected the count, citing a mishap due to duplicated reports of victims, stated WKRG. As the investigation dives deeper into the details of the shooting, a reward of $15,000 has been offered for information leading to the identification and apprehension of the suspects.
