Miami-Dade gears up to celebrate Earth Month with its landmark 42nd Baynanza Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day tomorrow. Volunteers are set to flock to more than 30 different spots along the crucial waterway, starting with an exclusive kickoff at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park at 9 a.m. According to a press release, this massive environmental effort is coordinated by the Miami-Dade County Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources' Division of Environmental Resources Management (DERM).

A crucial component of the Baynanza event is its focus on stopping litter from reaching our waters, a measure essential for the health of the Biscayne Bay. The gathering is not just a cleanup—it’s a campaign to enlighten residents about their everyday impacts on the ecosystem.

DERM has rallied thousands of individuals committed to the bay's welfare by removing trash and marine debris. The agency promotes a message of conservation through this annual meet-up, partnering with local nonprofits and county agencies to bolster its cause.

This year’s edition features new inland cleanup sites, which tackle the litter issue at its source. The debris collected inland can have just as significant an effect on a bay's health as the waste found directly in the water.
