A Miami-Dade man tragically lost his life in an early morning rain of gunfire in West Perrine. Miami-Dade Police, acting on a ShotSpotter alert, found the man shot multiple times in his car before 3 a.m. near the 10000 block of W. Indigo Street, authorities say. In a heart-wrenching encounter recounted by a neighbor to NBC6, the witness saw the bullet-riddled vehicle and dialed 911. "I looked at the car and I dialed 911 because I saw gunshots in the passenger side and the back window was shot completely out," the neighbor recounted.
The victim, found to be in critical condition, was swiftly transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital South by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue but sadly was pronounced dead thereafter. While officials have yet to formally release his identity, the deceased's aunt named him as Calvin Dale to NBC6 and shared that he was a father of six. She expressed her grief and urgency that action needs to quickly be taken to address the rampant gun violence that plagues their community.
Meanwhile, reporting from a different part of the neighborhood, police confirmed to Local 10 that the same shooting took place in the 10100 block of East Hibiscus Street. Clamors of despair over frequent gun violence came from the community, as neighbors voiced their concerns. "They gotta do something about it. Gotta build up a better community," Seymour Vincent told Local 10.
Community members are urging the youth to put down their weapons, with Mark Harris imploring, "All we’re asking these young people is to lay down these guns (and) stop killing each other," in an interview with Local 10. Neighbors recounted to the news outlet that Daye was a young father, his life unnecessarily cut short in his 20s. With the rise in local gun violence, the community's plea for safety and change has become increasingly resonate louder.
Police have not yet disclosed any further details about the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing. Those with any information are urged to come forward and contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
