In a heartwarming community event, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Miami-Dade's finest four-legged citizens will take center stage on Dog Therapy Appreciation Day. Scheduled for April 11, the mayor is set to honor a special squad of former shelter dogs that have since earned their stripes as certified therapy dogs, providing solace across various sectors in the area.
Announced by the mayor's office, the event aims to shine a spotlight on furry good Samaritans and their contribution to Miami-Dade’s well-being. The recognition will take place at 1 p.m. at the Stephen P. Clark Government Center, in a public assertion of gratitude to the canine companions that now serve as therapy dogs after successfully passing rigorous certification tests, according to the official release.
All set to join the mayor are members of prestigious units including the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Community Oriented Support Therapy Dog Program and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Crisis Response K9 Program. The dogs, valued for their unwavering service and affection, demonstrate the profound potential within shelter animals – potential that can be molded into a life of service and community bonding.
As an added bonus for attendees, the Animal Services Department will present an opportunity for citizens to adopt their new best friend on-site. The event offers not just a celebration of canine heroes but a chance for others to follow in their paw prints, with adoption fees starting at $65 for dogs over four months old, and $85 for puppies. Cats and kittens can be taken home for a modest $35. This initiative serves to remind Miami-Dade that every dog has its day, especially those waiting for a family at the Pet Adoption and Protection Center, confirmation obtained from the official announcement.
With a yearly intake ranging from 30,000 to 36,000 lost or abandoned animals, Miami-Dade County Animal Services continues to devote itself to creating happy endings for furry residents. The event, featuring Therapy K9s like Amanda, Sparky, Dottie, and others, epitomizes the department's mission – ensuring that each animal finds a loving home and perhaps, a greater purpose within the community.
