On a recent Saturday in the normally quiet skies of Miami Gardens, a maternal instinct took an unexpected turn towards civic duty. A local mother, upon discovering a firearm in her son's backpack, made the difficult decision to turn him in to the authorities, NBC Miami reported. Her son, 29-year-old Jahir Iglesias, now faces a myriad of charges including possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and grand theft auto.
The incident led to Iglesias' arrest in Miramar after a traffic stop by local police. According to police records, the suspect has been slapped with a $5,000 bond for the weapon possession, $2,000 for the car theft, another $2,000 for discharging a firearm, and lesser amounts for resisting arrest and operating a vehicle with a suspended license. A minor traffic debacle unfolded when Iglesias, allegedly involved in the car burglary, refused to step out of the vehicle he was in, prompting officers to shut down University Drive, between Miramar Boulevard and Pembroke Road, until he was subdued.
This chain of events was set in motion after Iglesias' mother found the firearm and preemptively alerted the authorities, her maternal conscience seemingly outweighing the bond of blood. The Miramar Police Department confirmed that the call from his mother was pivotal in apprehending Iglesias, who, reported by 954fastpitchtv, is a white male with a prior record that significantly compounds his current legal troubles.
Iglesias is now behind bars.
