A Michigan woman seems to have gotten herself in a high-stakes debacle after allegedly trying to smuggle a massive stash of pot through Beantown's Logan Airport and over the pond to London. Nalexus Palmer, 28, of Clinton Township, found herself in a heap of legal trouble when she was charged with trafficking marijuana between 50 and 100 pounds, as reported by Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden's office.
Palmer was held on $3,000 bail and, according to the District Attorney's announcement, is to decisively stay away from Logan except for "legitimate travel." Her travel plans hit a snag this Saturday when she purportedly attempted to carry 74 pounds of vacuum-sealed marijuana through the airport, with an intended final destination across the Atlantic. Each bag of her green cargo was cunningly equipped with an Apple AirTag to presumably track the precious cargo's journey.
In her defense, Palmer claimed ignorance about the suitcases' content, stating to State Police detectives that an unknown woman had dropped them off and that she didn't know the man who allegedly organized this questionable errand. Despite her assertions, as detailed in a statement by the District Attorney's Office, "an unknown woman had dropped them off to her earlier that day."
While the leafy substance may be A-OK for possession in both Michigan and Massachusetts, the United Kingdom holds no such leniency on the drug, with its illicit street value soaring to about $5,000 per pound. Palmer will have to temporarily shelve her globe-trotting aspirations, as her next court appearance is slated for May 24 for a probable cause hearing.
