A late-night shooting at a Miramar apartment complex has left one man dead, with his alleged shooter—a friend—now in custody. The fatal altercation occurred around 11 p.m. Thursday in the 10700 block of N. Preserve Way, authorities reported.

First responders who hurried to the scene discovered two individuals outside the complex. They attempted to perform life-saving measures on the victim before he was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, according to NBC Miami. The second person, who was quickly taken into custody, claims the shooting was an unfortunate accident.

Miramar Police spokesperson Tiffany Roy confirmed the apprehension of the suspect and their cooperation. "Officers right now are working with the suspect, he's being cooperative at this moment, answering questions," Roy disclosed in a statement obtained by NBC Miami. The authorities believe there are no additional suspects involved in this incident.

Evidence was still being collected at the scene the following afternoon. Despite the ongoing nature of the investigation, officials have yet to formally charge the suspect. Both individuals involved in this tragic event are adults, and as Roy told WSVN, "We are not looking for anyone else."

The identities of those involved have not yet been released pending notification of family members and further investigation.
