A Nashville man has been charged with homicide after a 22-month-old girl died from severe head injuries. Keith Swanson, 25, was arrested in connection to the death of toddler Myrikle Belin, as reported by the Metro Nashville Police Department.

Swanson, the boyfriend of the child's legal guardian, called 911 early Monday morning to report that the child was unresponsive. He attempted CPR before Myrikle was rushed from her Riverside Drive home to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, WKRN reports.

An autopsy the next day revealed internal scalp lacerations, hemorrhaging, and a swollen brain, leading to the ruling that the cause of death was blunt force trauma. Police also noted during their investigation several bruises on Myrikle’s face, head, and chest. WSMV obtained a statement from the authorities detailing the injuries.

The child's aunt, who had left Myrikle in Swanson’s care that morning to attend a college class, told police that her niece was awake and talking before her departure. Swanson claimed he was in another room when the child stopped making noise and found her limp when he checked on her, according to an affidavit cited by The Tennessean.

Currently held on a $250,000 bond, Swanson is scheduled to make a court appearance this Friday.
