A Nashville man's morning ended in violence when he was the victim of a carjacking and shooting, leading to the arrest of the perpetrator, who was already a convicted felon. Thomas D. Pointer, 26, faces multiple charges after being apprehended by the Specialized Investigations Division TITANS detectives, according to a Nashville Police Department report.
The incident transpired near E. Old Hickory Boulevard, and Gallatin Pike, with the 33-year-old victim later arriving at Skyline Medical Center for a serious gunshot wound to the leg. Detectives used an Apple Air Tag inside the victim's vehicle, a 2019 Nissan Versa, to track the car to Hermitage where Pointer was seen interacting with family. The vehicle was eventually found abandoned on Oakland Acres Drive.
Law enforcement officers conducting surveillance in the area spotted Pointer walking along Saunders Avenue and detained him without incident. At the time of the arrest, the 26-year-old was in possession of two pistols and 228 oxycodone pills. He was previously out on bond for an unlawful gun possession charge from last October, per Nashville authorities.
Pointer's history with the law includes a conviction for robbery and felony evading arrest in November 2019, for which he received a five-and-a-half-year sentence. However, he was not behind bars when the latest crime was committed. Now, he sits in jail on charges including especially aggravated robbery, felony drug possession, and unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon. A judicial commissioner has set his bond at $95,000.
