New Braunfels in Talks for Potential $18 Million Topgolf Complex Amid Stalled NegotiationsSource: Wikipedia/DMS WIKI, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons

The City of New Braunfels, known for its lively community and growing business scene, may soon boast a new $18 million Topgolf entertainment complex, provided ongoing negotiations swing in the right direction. Despite a January start date and hopes of slicing through red tape by year's end, the Topgolf plans submitted to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation seem to be stuck in the sand trap for now.

As reported by the San Antonio Business Journal, negotiations between the city officials and the Topgolf developers are still active. "We hope to take final agreements to the appropriate bodies before the official start of summer," said Jeff Jewell, director of economic and community development for the city of New Braunfels, signaling that talks are continuing but the project is far from a done deal.

Envisioned as a two-story facility with 60 golf-hitting bays, the 38,000-square-foot venue aims to be the new go-to spot for entertainment and leisure in New Braunfels. According to documents obtained by MySanAntonio, the anticipated completion date is set for December 15, 2024, before Christmas Day, However, fans eager to take a swing will need to keep their clubs polished, as construction gears up to tee off on January 20, 2024.

While the details of the deal remain confidential, New Braunfels officials are not disclosing much and have forwarded a records request to the Texas Attorney General's Office for a ruling on disclosure. Topgolf, known for being transparent about its other expansions with over seven dozen locations worldwide, remained tight-lipped when asked about the New Braunfels venue. A representative stated earlier this year that the company had no news to share regarding their plans for the city.

The popular sports entertainment company has been on a roll since being acquired by Callaway Golf Co. in 2021, driving up its portfolio with multiple new openings, the latest being in Durham, North Carolina. With its signature three-story complexes complete with hitting bays, restaurants, bars, and meeting spaces, Topgolf is looking to stake its claim along the bustling I-35 corridor—with New Braunfels potentially being its next flagstick location.
