Tragedy struck a quiet enclave in the southwest Chicago suburbs on Sunday as one person was killed and three others, including a 12-year-old girl, were wounded in what police are calling a domestic incident in Oak Forest. According to reports by CBS, the gunfire erupted at 5:10 p.m. in the 5500 block of Babette Court, a cul-de-sac off Central Avenue, leaving a 39-year-old man shot in the head. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. A 19-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman also found at the scene were treated for leg wounds, with the woman remaining in the hospital.
The 12-year-old girl, caught in the crossfire while in a neighboring driveway, was still hospitalized Monday morning. In a statement obtained by CBS, one of the girl's relatives recounted the horrific ordeal: "My little cousin was sitting there in the arms of her mom. She was being shot – you see blood everywhere."
Oak Forest police, while responding to the original crime scene, learned of another vehicle involved. In the 5900 block of West 159th Street, they found a fourth victim suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. One other person from the car was detained at the scene. ABC7 reported a man's account, who asked not to be identified, sharing that his 12-year-old cousin was shot in the back.
