
A Peabody man was left fighting for his life after a single-vehicle smash-up on Route 1 in Danvers, Massachusetts. According to State Police reports, the crash occurred just before mid-morning yesterday and involved a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Massachusetts State Police were called to the scene north of Danvers around 10:05 AM after the Jeep, operated by the 34-year-old, veered off the highway and engaged in an unsettling tango with a telephone pole, before ultimately colliding with a tree. The driver suffered grave injuries in the wreck, warranting urgent medical attention. He was initially taken to Beverly Hospital, and then, to Lahey Hospital in Burlington for further treatment, the MSP detailed.
Investigators from multiple divisions, including the State Police-Danvers Barracks, State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and State Police Crime Scene Services Section, are still piecing together the circumstances that led up to the collision. Meanwhile, Danvers Police, fire crews, and EMTs also provided crucial assistance at the crash site.
The incident led to a temporary shutdown of the right lane on Route 1, as crews worked to manage the emergency response. This action caused some traffic delays that lasted until the scene was cleared at approximately 11:43 AM, bystanders and affected commuters must have noted the disruption with a mix of frustration, and concern for the unnamed driver's well-being.
