A Pinecrest police officer was hospitalized Wednesday after being shot at a south Miami-Dade gun range, officials said. The shooting occurred at the Homestead Training Center—addressed at 11700 SW 304th St.—which is in close proximity to the Homestead Air Reserve Base, this incident unfolding just before the 2:30 p.m. mark, as per records obtained from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue dispatch.
The wounded officer, whose identity remained undisclosed, was partaking in a "pre-schedule(d) training exercise," and was initially transported to Baptist Health Homestead Hospital; shortly after the officer was airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center, Local 10 News reported, detailing the whereabouts and the condition of the officer staying stable as of Wednesday afternoon it was also revealed that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement would be looking into the matter's circumstance. Yet, authorities haven't specified if the officer's injury was self-inflicted or caused by another.
Chopper 6 aerial footage captured the scene, showing law enforcement officers swarming the Homestead Training Center, a portion of the gun range cordoned off with the all-telling sign of an incident.
As per a statement given by a Pinecrest police spokesperson, the intricate details of the shooting are to be meticulously parsed, and thoroughly vetted, by state investigators, "The circumstances around the shooting will be (investigated) by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement," they confirmed.
Meanwhile, the officer is receiving care at Jackson South Medical Center, with their condition not immediately available. Still, the good news is that she remains stable, NBC Miami reported.
