The Street Services Coordination Center (SSCC), in a report released April 2nd, detailed its efforts from March 25-31, indicating that the multifaceted group is on a mission to not only clean up the city's streets but also to pitch in with alternatives for those displaced by their work.

Comprised of agencies including the Homelessness and Urban Camping Impact Reduction Program, Portland Fire & Rescue, local law enforcement, the transportation department, the parks and recreation authority, and Multnomah County, the SSCC operates on the front lines, navigating through the complexities of homelessness—offering assistance in various forms such as trash collection, health and safety risk assessments, unsafe camp removal and last but not least, they provide an essential life-line to shelter referrals and transport, according to the SSCC's update made public via the city's report.

During the latest weekly outreach, the team targeted high-risk campsites, not only dismantling them but simultaneously offering the displaced individuals a chance to stay in designated shelter beds; these beds are an attempt to stop those affected by such removals, underlining the supportive anchor the SSCC aims to be. Since April of last year, the initiative has reportedly offered shelter beds to thousands, a testament to their commitment, as individuals caught in the cycle of homelessness navigate toward a life of greater stability and security.
