Chaos ensued on a Raleigh street Tuesday morning when a truck slammed into an overpass, raining down concrete chunks and wreaking havoc on the commute. The collision on James Road forced the closure of the area shortly after 7 a.m., as reported by WREG, disrupting the flow of traffic and leaving several motorists with damaged vehicles.

Motorists caught in the incident described the sudden and unexpected nature of the crash. One such driver, Tamera Martin Payne, recounted the harrowing moment her vehicle was struck: “When it hit it was a loud thump. So I could hear something crack under it but I couldn’t see anything. It wasn’t until I pulled over that I could see the smoke.” Across three lanes, the debris posed an unavoidable obstacle. “You wouldn’t be able to cross at any point without hitting your car on one of those larger rocks,” Payne added, as per WREG.

The incident caused significant disruptions, with law enforcement shutting down traffic in both directions to deal with the situation, as per Action News 5 report. No injuries were reported.
