Two local heroes have been recognized for their hard work and dedication toward shaping the futures of Ramsey County's youth. Hannah Chan and LaShay DeClercq-Ransom were honored on April 4 with the 2024 Youth Workforce Champion Awards, given by the Workforce Innovation Board of Ramsey County.
The awards were designed to not easily acknowledge, but also shine a spotlight on those making a real difference in the lives of young people between the ages of 14 and 24 in the area. Chan, associated with Saint Paul Public Schools, received the Legacy Award, a nod to her lasting impact and leadership in the field. DeClercq-Ransom's efforts at Elpis Enterprises earned her the Rising Star award, a testament to her growing influence and success in youth service.
In a statement, Ling Becker, Ramsey County Workforce Solutions director, commended Chan and DeClercq-Ransom for their contributions. "Their efforts in guiding young people towards employment opportunities and essential resources underscore their unwavering commitment to enhancing the lives of our youth," she said, as reported on the Ramsey County website.
Aalayha Traub, Chair of the WIB’s Youth Committee, also threw her praise into the ring, applauding the dedication the winners have shown. "Ms. Chan and Ms. DeClercq-Ransom have demonstrated remarkable dedication and influence in our community," Traub stated. "I am honored, on behalf of the Youth Committee, to recognize their significant contributions to the lives of countless youth." The sentiment reflects the broader appreciation within the county's leadership for individuals who are committed to bettering the employment prospects of its younger generation.
