According to a statement released by the Oakland Police Department (OPD), the shooting unfolded yesterday when Sacramento Police, conducting their investigation in Oakland, called for assistance from OPD just before 9:30 p.m. Arriving at the scene, Oakland Police officers were securing the perimeter when the armed suspect emerged from a residence.

In the resulting confrontation, OPD officers discharged their weapons, fatally wounding the individual armed with a gun. They rendered first aid until the arrival of medical personnel, who subsequently declared the suspect deceased at the scene. During the incident, there were no physical injuries reported among the officers.

Following standard protocol, the involved officers have been placed on paid administrative leave. OPD has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the officer-involved shooting involving both their Homicide Section and Internal Affairs Division, along with scrutiny from the Oakland Community Police Review Agency.
