The Tennessee Highway Patrol is conducting a manhunt for a driver implicated in a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on a stretch of Interstate 24 in Marion County, as officials seek assistance from the public. According to a release from the THP mentioned by WSMV, a woman was discovered lifeless at mile marker 138 on the eastbound lane of the roadway, near the Monteagle Mountain area, on April 1. It is believed by investigators that she was hit by a vehicle between 3:45 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. on March 30.
Struggling to identify the suspect, the THP has not yet released the name of the woman killed in the incident. As they work to find leads, Local 3 News reports that authorities are calling on anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward. Witnesses or those with any information related to the hit-and-run are requested to contact the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The hunt remains intense as investigators scour for any detail that could lead to the whereabouts of the driver who, after striking the woman, purportedly continued traveling eastbound without stopping to provide aid or inform law enforcement. "The driver who hit the woman never stopped or called 911," the THP emphasizes, seeking any fragment of evidence that could resolve the case, and deliver some solace to those shattered by the untimely death.
Authorities are urging people to step out of the shadows and speak, for the silence surrounding this tragedy is loud, and the need for answers is urgent. Information can be submitted anonymously, and the public can reach out to the THP Emergency Dispatch Center at (423) 954-2130—The Chattanoogan states those willing should select option 0 and ask to speak with Sgt. Matt Minter. Sgt. Minter, along with the THP, holds firmly to the conviction that justice here, though elusive, is just over the horizon, waiting to be seized by the hands of a concerned citizenry.
