Three men were hospitalized late Saturday night in the aftermath of a fiery car accident on Chicago's Far Southwest Side, officials have confirmed. The men, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, found themselves in a high-heat situation when their vehicle burst into flames following a collision. The incident unfolded in Ashburn, a neighborhood that on this night was sharply lit by the glow of fire and the harsh flashing of emergency lights.
The series of events, which involved multiple vehicles, occurred around 11:18 p.m. when the men, traveling eastbound in a black sedan on 79th Street, attempted a left turn onto South Pulaski Road, as per a report by NBC Chicago. Their sedan struck a Dodge SUV, which subsequently hit another Chevy SUV and a sedan, police said. The cascade of impacts abruptly ended in flames, consuming the black sedan and threatening those within.
Remarkably, all three men managed to flee the engulfed vehicle, with authorities confirming the trio was transported to area hospitals and listed in good condition. "All three were taken to area hospitals, where they were listed in good condition," NBC Chicago mentioned in their report, mirroring the fortunate outcome for the individuals who, for a moment, were trapped by an inferno on wheels.
Despite the spectacle and the potential for greater calamity, no other injuries were reported at the scene. The three males from the black sedan were taken to Christ Hospital, all in stable form, CBS News Chicago included in its coverage of the incident. An investigation into the crash is currently ongoing, with details being pieced together to understand the full scope of the incident and its cause.
