The search is on for a missing 15-year-old girl from Plantation, Florida, as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has issued a missing child alert. Maya Moore was last seen on Monday in the area of the 12200 block of West Broward Boulevard, wearing her black and yellow American Heritage School uniform. Described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, with black hair and brown eyes, the teenager is about 110 pounds, WFLA reports.
Authorities believe Maya may be with her father, Michael Moore, 68; described as 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds. The two are thought to be traveling in a 2019 gray Mitsubishi Outlander with Florida tag number QUFS45, potentially headed towards the Homestead area. Details regarding their disappearance are sparse, but concerns have been raised due to a string of legal disputes between Maya's parents. Court documents cited by NBC Miami indicate Michael Moore filed for divorce last December and has sought an injunction for protection against domestic violence against Rakhi Moore, Maya's mother.
Legal proceedings have become more contentious over the months. Rakhi Moore alleged Michael's "mental decompensation," prompting her to request the court to mandate mental health evaluations for him. Recently, the court sided with Rakhi, suspending Michael's contact with the teen, granting her sole custody, and prohibiting him from coming within 500 feet of Maya. Amidst these troubling family dynamics, an attorney for Rakhi Moore expressed their concern, stating they're "praying for the teen's safe return."
The situation has prompted officials from the American Heritage School to refrain from commenting as of Tuesday night, while local law enforcement and the FDLE urge anyone with information to come forward. If you have any details that could assist in locating Maya Moore, you are encouraged to contact the Plantation Police Department at 954-797-2100 or dial 911.
