A bloody squabble in Vacaville ended with a woman behind bars for allegedly knifing a local business employee. The police identified the woman as Makeda Cairo, 33, who reportedly fled the scene after the assault.
The violent incident unfolded at about 5:56 PM on April 1, following a heated argument over a tip jar at a Main Street business, as Cairo tried to make off with it. A quick-thinking witness kept tabs on the fleeing suspect, phoning in live updates to the cops until they caught up and cuffed Cairo near her parked vehicle. Inside the car, her children—aged 16, 3, and 1—waited, clueless of the chaos unfurling, confirmed Vacaville Police Department via a Facebook post.
Meanwhile, the victim—a 51-year-old employee who had tried to intervene—suffered a stab wound to his arm. According to the VVPD dispatch, he was rushed to a local hospital and is expected to pull through.
Following her arrest, Child Welfare Services took Cairo’s kids under their wing to ensure their well-being. Cairo herself landed in Solano County Jail slapped with charges of assault with a deadly weapon and robbery, as detailed in the police's Facebook communication.
As for local law enforcement, the hunt for answers presses on. Detective Meek, heading up the case, calls on the community for any relevant leads. Vacaville PD’s Lieutenant Cardona stands ready to field media inquiries.
