A startling incident left a pet hospital in Sunrise with a surprise guest in their waiting room late Saturday night, when a driver lost control and barreled into the Sunset Animal Hospital. The crash occurred along Sunset Strip, near Nob Hill Road, according to WSVN.
Authorities reported to the scene just after 11:30 p.m., where a white Lincoln was found lodged inside the building. The driver involved in the bizarre accident managed to escape injury and, according to Dr. Cristina Polit and Alfonso Reyes, the hospital's owners, no animals or staff were inside at the time. "We still don’t understand how this happened," Dr. Polit told WSVN, while Reyes added a thankful note, "Thank God no one was in the office."
Upon receiving an alarm notification, Dr. Polit and Reyes rushed to the scene. "There was car in my waiting room, so we ran over here," Dr. Polit recounted in a statement obtained by NBC Miami. The surveillance system recorded the moment of impact, showing the vehicle crashing through the entrance.
The motorist claimed that his foot had become stuck on the gas pedal, leading to the collision. Police confirmed that the driver was alone and showed no signs of alcohol or drug impairment. "Something happened with his legs, supposedly, and he wasn’t taken into custody. I mean, he was just let go," Reyes told WSVN, showcasing concern over the unusual nature of the crash.
The animal hospital began cleanup efforts quickly, with the goal to reopen by Monday, despite the damage. The front of the building has been temporarily fixed with plywood after the vehicle was towed away. "We’ll just have to work different hours this week," said Reyes, determined to keep their decade-long business operational after the mishap, as per WSVN report.
