A hail of gunfire on a Frayser street left a man dead and a child fighting for life, in two separate incidents that marred the Memphis neighborhood over the weekend. Memphis Police Department (MPD) responded to an initial shooting just before noon on Sunday, where a male was gravely wounded alongside a juvenile who was also injured on the 4000 block of Range Line Rd. FOX13 Memphis reported. The male victim was rushed to Regional One Hospital in critical condition while the juvenile was taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, with no suspects identified in this incident.
In a tragic echo of violence later that evening, officers were once again dispatched to Frayser, this time to the 4200 block of Ridgestone Drive, following the callous shooting that claimed the life of a man and left a juvenile critically injured. The shooting occurred a little after 8:30 p.m. When the man was pronounced dead on the scene, according to Local Memphis. The young boy was transported to the same hospital as the earlier victim in dire condition.
Earlier in the day, the first incident on Range Line Road saw MPD arriving at 11:43 a.m., where they found both shooting victims. There was no immediate information on the suspect or suspects responsible, as confirmed by WREG. While the juvenile's injuries were initially reported as non-critical, the overlap of these events underscores a continuing struggle against a spasm of violence that Frayser has been unable to shake.
MPD implores anyone with information on both cases, to offer their voices as a testament to justice, by contacting 901-528-CASH. The memory of peace seems all too fleeting on the streets of Frayser, as residents are left to grapple with the visual and emotional wreckage of these successive shootings, exacting a toll on the community's soul, seeking solace and solutions in the wake of a confrontation with the specter of untimely mortality.
