A brazen porch pirate was caught on camera swiping a package from a Weymouth family's doorstep, allegedly masquerading as a DoorDash worker. The surveillance footage from the Gilmore family's home shows the thief snatching a parcel containing birthday and Easter presents intended for their 6-year-old daughter.
"The way he rolled up was sketchy," Edwin Gilmore said, according to Boston 25 News. He and his wife, Rachael, were at home with two of their daughters when the incident occurred, with their cars plainly visible in the driveway, yet the suspect was undeterred.
Rachael Gilmore told WCVB that in her seven years living on the busy street, this was the first instance of a package being stolen from their doorstep. The footage allegedly shows the perpetrator approach the house with a DoorDash delivery bag before taking the package.
"It was like violating somebody walking up with everyone home and taking something," Rachael recounted, according to Boston 25 News. The couple has since reported the theft to the Weymouth Police, who are looking into the matter. Neighbors have also experienced a similar theft, showing a pattern that suggests, the culprit might be targeting the area. There's been no confirmation if the individual in the video is indeed employed by DoorDash.
As the investigation is still unfolding, the police have not commented further on the case. The Gilmores are left questioning how to better protect their deliveries in the future.
