An eighteen-year-old suspect was nabbed on Grafton St. one step ahead of sliding into a getaway car yesterday, in connection with a shooting that went down on Clarkson St. in Worcester earlier this month.
Carter Webster, the third man to be arrested, had warrants out for his arrest and was spotted by Worcester Police officers working jointly with the Massachusetts State Police VFAS, the United States Marshals Service, and the Worcester County Sheriff's Office. The bust went down at approximately 1:10 p.m. as Mr. Webster moved to quickly to get into a car. In a swift move, officers closed in, prompting Webster to bail and make a fleeting break for it. However, his attempt was in vain as police took him down and cuffed him. A scuffle ensued, during which officers discovered Webster was packing heat in his waistband—a gun he wasn't licensed to carry.
According to the official Worcester Police report, Webster is now facing a series of serious charges. He was slammed with Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License (2nd or Subsequent Offense), Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card.
The charges come as no surprise given the heavy artillery Webster was not supposed to even possess, much less to stealthily try to carry around. He had no business bearing a loaded firearm without a license, which compounds the gravity of the situation as law enforcement continues to grapple with street violence and illegal weapons in the community. Holding such an arsenal also positions Webster in violation of Massachusetts' restrictive firearm ownership laws.
