A straightforward shakedown at a McDonald's on Shrewsbury Street turned into a debacle when a Worcester woman allegedly took to vandalizing a patron's car after a botched robbery, local police say.
In an incident detailed by the Worcester Police Department, 29-year-old Carmen Ortiz of Channing St reportedly approached a customer inside the eatery around 6:45 PM on March 30 and demanded money. When her request was declined, Ortiz allegedly unleashed a string of expletives before exiting. The man stepped outside moments later, only to discover Ortiz rummaging through his vehicle's glove box, according to the Worcester Police report.
The scene escalated as a Worcester officer working a paid detail at the McDonald's observed the commotion and intervened. The car owner claimed a wallet containing $300 had vanished, which the vigilant officer purportedly recovered from Ortiz's clenched fist after she initially denied the theft, prompting her to drop the cash and attempt to flee.
Following her unsuccessful escape, Ortiz was arrested when she suddenly turned aggressive again and began kicking the vehicle causing a dent. She faces multiple charges, including Larceny from a Motor Vehicle, Vandalism, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct and Disturbing the Peace, according to the Worcester Police Department. Despite the ordeal and the damage incurred, the unnamed victim reportedly declined to press charges over the stolen cash.
