
A hit-and-run incident on Wednesday evening left a 12-year-old boy in critical condition, after he was struck by a vehicle on Chicago's West Side, authorities said. The accident occurred as the boy was crossing the street in the Austin neighborhood, specifically in the 100 block of North Menard Avenue, around 7:15 p.m., according to the Chicago Tribune.
After the collision, the boy was rushed to Stroger Hospital,, where he remains in critical condition. As reported by the WGN-TV, police have stated that the vehicle involved did not stop after hitting the boy. Unfortunately, given the suddenness of the event, the child has been unable to provide details about the incident. The driver responsible has not been apprehended, and no one is currently in custody.
The Chicago Police Department is conducting a thorough investigation into the hit-and-run. Detectives have been canvassing the area since the event, trying to locate any witnesses or surveillance footage that may shed light on the identity of the driver. Meanwhile, local residents have been alerted to the search for the fleeing vehicle, in the hopes that any additional information comes to light.
