A devastating car accident claimed the life of a 25-year-old passenger and left the driver injured early Thursday morning on Chicago's DuSable Lake Shore Drive. According to Chicago police, the vehicle, attempting to avoid a collision with another car, careened out of control. The incident occurred around 12:15 a.m. in the 3100 block of North DuSable Lake Shore Drive, as reported by the Chicago Tribune.
The driver, in a desperate attempt to avoid hitting another vehicle, swerved and consequently struck a curb then collided with a light pole before the vehicle came to a stop. In the wake of the crash, both the driver and the passenger were rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. It was there that the passenger, identified as Jorge A. Castillo of DesPlaines, was pronounced dead, the Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed.
The driver's condition was listed as fair, the authorities said. The Chicago Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Unit has taken the helm of the investigation into the unfortunate event.
