A shootout in northwest Atlanta prompted an escalated police response ending with a SWAT situation early this week. According to Atlanta News First, officers responded to reports of gunfire on the 700 block of Neal Street NW after 9 p.m. on Sunday. They found one man who had been caught with a glancing bullet wound to the abdomen, refusing further medical treatment after being tended to on the scene.
Amidst the investigation, it was uncovered by a Flock license plate reader camera that there had been an exchange of gunfire between a group at the residence and passengers in a white sedan. Having pulled up to the house, multiple shots were fired each way before the sedan hastily departed.
Police requested individuals from the threatened house to exit. While some obeyed, others did not heed the call. Initially, those who complied with police indicated there were no more occupants inside. However, the search revealed this was not the case. The Atlanta News First report detailed that, upon activating the SWAT team and obtaining a search warrant, two additional non-injured individuals were found inside and detained for questioning.
This incident was marked as a targeted shooting, as police continue to search for the multiple suspects involved in the white sedan. 11Alive has noted that an active shooting investigation remains underway near Neal Street and James P. Brawley Drive Northwest, which unfolded just last night in proximity to this recent shootout, though police have not confirmed the connection between the two events.
