Bay Area to Savor Warm Weather Before Weekend Cool Down, National Weather Service AdvisesSource: Ilya Grigorik, CC BY-SA 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons

Bay Area locals better enjoy the sunshine while it lasts. The National Weather Service San Francisco, CA, says summer-like temps will hang around until Thursday before the weekend brings a drop. Today, inland highs will hit the upper 70s to low 80s, but coastal towns will stay in the upper 50s to low 60s. Expect a slight cooldown as the onshore breezes bring in more moisture.

The Weather Service warns, "Minor heat risk continues today and tomorrow for most of the interior Bay Area and interior portions of the Central Coast." But they have a tip for those sensitive to the sun's rays: "Remember to take breaks while outdoors and to drink plenty of water." An upper-level trough is forecast to deepen along the West Coast, pushing temps down 5 to 15 degrees below average by the weekend—oh, and don't stash your coat just yet.

Morning fog and clouds will keep it dreary along the coast. "Stratus coverage is expected to become more widespread beginning over the weekend," says the Weather Service. By Sunday, we're looking at a weak sunny comeback as high pressures start nudging in, with temps creeping back to the 70s and 80s inland and coastlines sitting pretty in the 50s to mid-60s.

For the sailors and beachgoers, gale-force gusts are set to lash the outer waters. Stick to shore unless you're up for a rough ride, "Expect hazardous conditions, and steeper wind waves during the week," warns the National Weather Service. The waters should settle down as the week closes out, just in time for the weekend warriors to hit the open seas—or the marinas.
