
A tragic incident unfolded this weekend at Bethel Island as a young boy, believed to be around 5 years old, was found submerged in the water and later pronounced dead at a local hospital. According to CBS San Francisco, the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office responded to a distress call on Halcyon Place following a report of the missing child on Saturday afternoon.
Alerted around 4:30 p.m., deputies and marine patrol undertook an urgent search for the boy, who feared falling into the water, Jimmy Lee, the sheriff's spokesman, stated. Dispatched after missing the child, deputies searched near the docks, where a rescue diver from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District eventually located the boy approximately 40 minutes later.
The situation turned critical when the fire district's diver retrieved the child from the water. Immediate life-saving measures were applied, as detailed in an update provided by the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District in an X post. The young victim was transported to the hospital without delay, but despite the first responders' efforts, he did not survive.
