
East Boston became the scene of a major drug bust on Thursday as police clamped down on suspected traffickers operating in the area. Santiago Alzate, 30, and Martin Alzate, 57, were cuffed and are now facing a slew of charges related to the copious amounts of Cocaine allegedly found in their possession. The raid was the climax of a protracted, six-month investigation by local and state drug enforcement units.
According to an announcement issued by the Boston Police Department, the officers opted to swiftly execute search warrants around 10:51 AM at an address linked to the suspects. This decisive action resulted to in the seizure of roughly 45 grams of Cocaine, alongside several plastic bags and around $1,751 in cash, suspected to be the proceeds from illegal drug sales.
The Alzate duo, hailing from East Boston themselves, were slapped with charges related to trafficking class B substances, an accusation that carries hefty penalties. Specifically, they're accused of trafficking, possessing with intent to distribute, and distributing class B drugs. The two men are booked to appear before East Boston District Court, where they'll answer to these charges.
