A Brockton man, Neylton Fontes, age 36, has copped to his part in a major drug ring slingin' dope in Massachusetts, authorities said yesterday. Fontes pleaded guilty to charges including possession with intent to distribute and conspiracy to distribute substances such as cocaine and fentanyl.

Fontes entered his plea on Wednesday and is set for sentencing on the September 16, 2024, as detailed by the U.S. Department of Justice. His indictment, which occurred in October 2023, also snagged three others in the operation that unfolded around Quincy and Weymouth beginning back in January 2021. Fontes faces a possible 20-year stint behind bars, at least three years, and could be under watch for a lifetime following his release, and a hefty fine that could soar to $1 million.

The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy and the FBI's Boston Division Special Agent in Charge, Jodi Cohen. The Department of Justice reported that the bust was the result of a collaborative effort with multiple law enforcement agencies contributing including the Plymouth and Suffolk County Sheriff's Departments and Massachusetts State Police.

Fontes now awaits his fate at the hands of a federal district court judge, however the charges originally brought against him are merely allegations. Unless, and until, he is proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt—a right entrenched in the U.S. justice system. Meanwhile, this case marks another victory for the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force’s mission to stamp out top-tier criminal threats.
