Carrollton Man Charged in Aggravated Sexual Assault Case with Victim from DentonSource: Google Street View

A Carrollton man, previously unknown to his victim, has been arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault for a 2022 incident, Denton police reported Wednesday. Carlton Tambaoga, 25, sits behind bars with a whopping $2.2 million bond, facing six felony charges after forensic evidence linked him to the attack of a Denton woman.

The ordeal began in July 2022 when the victim, whose identity remains protected, underwent a forensic exam. The results were entered into the CODIS law enforcement database but initially failed to yield a suspect match. It was not until February 2024, that a break came after Carrollton Police detained Tambaoga about similar offenses.

As the investigation unfolded, it was revealed that Tambaoga was aware he was HIV-positive at the time of the assaults. "Denton PD detectives obtained an arrest warrant on Monday after lab results showed that Tambaoga is the contributor of the DNA profile obtained in the Denton case," according to the Denton Police Department, as per the City of Denton, Texas.

Authorities, concerned there may be additional victims, are urging anyone with information to come forward. Detective Marqui Curtis, the point of contact, can be reached at (940) 349-7727 for any related information. Meanwhile, Denton County Friends of the Family continues to offer a 24-hour crisis line available by call or text at (940) 382-7273 for those affected by rape, sexual abuse, and domestic violence.

Tambaoga remains incarcerated at Denton County Jail since his initial arrest in February, as he awaits the resolution of his case. The Denton Police Department's announcement marks yet another step in an ongoing saga of unraveling the past actions of the accused assailant and bringing closure to the victims.
