
A 20-year-old Chicago man faces serious charges following a deadly car crash that left a 25-year-old male passenger dead. Jaime Torres Jr., from the 7100 block of S. California in Chicago, has been charged with one felony count of reckless homicide involving a motor vehicle, and another felony count for aggravated DUI leading to an accidental death. Authorities also charged Torres with a misdemeanor for driving under the influence of alcohol, with a blood alcohol content of 0.08, as well as citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed, as reported by the Chicago Police Department.
Law enforcement officials stated that Torres was apprehended early in the morning on May 9, 2024, at approximately 3:17 a.m., after being identified as the driver in a tragic crash that occurred hours earlier on the 3100 block of N. Lake Shore Dr. The crash resulted in the passenger's death, thrusting Torres into custody where he is facing his grim tally of offenses. A detention hearing is scheduled for May 11, 2024, at 2600 S. California, to determine Torres's legal fate.
