A Chicago man is facing serious charges after being accused of sexually assaulting a vulnerable resident at a facility for individuals with severe developmental disabilities. Isaiah Fields, 22, has been arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, along with charges of criminal sexual assault, and aggravated battery, as reported by CBS Chicago.
Fields is alleged to have abused a woman residing at the Marklund Center in Geneva, who was discovered, nearly full-term pregnant in April and gave birth later that same month. The victim, who has been a resident of the Marklund facility for over two decades, has a severe or profound intellectual disability and was incapable of consent. Following DNA tests from male employees, past and present, authorities confirmed that Fields' DNA matched, as per officials.
In light of the allegations and subsequent investigation, the president and CEO of Marklund, Gil Fonger, expressed a sense of relief to CBS Chicago. "Knowing that this nightmare has reached this stage, it feels like a huge weight has been lifted off our organization, and allowed us all to breathe a sigh of relief. While it cannot change the past, we are at least confident in knowing that justice will be served," said Fonger.
Fields, of the 5000 block of West Maple Avenue in Chicago, was ordered detained by Kane County Judge Lark Cowart, who deemed him a danger to the public, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Marklund, the facility where the incident occurred, serves individuals with severe and profound intellectual, cognitive, and physical disabilities. Fields' case, still pending, continues to develop as he remains in custody at the Kane County Jail, awaiting further court proceedings.
