Community members are on high alert after police reported an attempted kidnapping incident involving a 15-year-old girl in the city’s 16th District. According to the Chicago Police Department, the teenager was approached by an unidentified man while waiting for the bus on Monday morning.

The incident occurred on the 4900 Block of North Central Avenue around 7:30 A.M. The suspect, driving a tan or brown older model SUV with no license plates, reportedly rolled down his window and asked the girl to "get in" and for her phone number. With the bus shielding her arrival, the girl managed to get on board, only to have the man follow the vehicle along its route.

At Montrose, after disembarking, the young girl found herself once again the focus of the suspect's alarming attention. He parked his vehicle near the bus stop, stepped out, and persistently beckoned her to "get in" the car. Alarmed and quick on her feet, the juvenile proceeded to walk northbound on Central from Montrose, prompting the suspect to finally drive away.

Described as a black male between 30-40 years of age with a shaved head and a mustache, the suspect was last seen wearing black pants, a white tee shirt, and a black jacket. Authorities are urging the public to maintain vigilance and to report any information that could lead to his identification.

The Chicago Police Department has advised citizens to stay alert and informed neighbors of the situation. They recommend calling 911 to report any suspicious activities. As a precaution, they advise not letting children walk alone and establishing safe havens along their routes to school. Additional safety measures include starting a Parent Patrol or Walking School Bus Program, with more details available from the CAPS Implementation Office at 312-747-9987.
