The streets of Chicago's 2nd District are on high alert as police warn of a string of armed robberies committed by a young male with a gun. A community alert to Wentworth residents detailing two recent incidents on the 200 block of East Garfield Boulevard: one at 2:00 A.M. on May 23 and another at 1:00 P.M. on May 26, marking an uptick in brazen midday crime, according to the Chicago Police Department.
The suspect in question is described as a bald African-American male around 20 to 21 years old, who, after approaching victims and brandishing a handgun, demanded property before fleeing on foot; both crimes occurred similarly, causing unease among the local populace. To curb further incidents, police are advising residents to stay vigilant, report suspicious activities, and remember any distinct features of potential assailants, such as scars, limps, or unique teeth.
Emphasizing the importance of community cooperation, the CPD advises against chasing suspects and instead endorses being a good witness—recording crucial details can lead to a safer neighborhood. Victims or bystanders should dial 9-1-1 immediately, providing valuable information to the authorities and, when possible, remain at the scene to assist in any investigations, as per the Chicago Police Department.
