Chicago's Grand Crossing and Englewood neighborhoods are on high alert after a string of brazen armed robberies orchestrated under the guise of online motorcycle sales. Police have issued a community alert warning that in each incident, would-be buyers were lured to secluded areas by an offender, only to be ambushed by multiple individuals brandishing firearms and demanding cash. Tragically, one victim was shot during these encounters.

The series of robberies, which began to emerge on April 27 and have cruelly persisted through late May, are concentrated in areas where online deals too often turn deadly. According to the Chicago Police Department, these ruthless thefts have followed a disturbing pattern — the supposed seller leads the victim to the back of a property before being joined by other attackers in a coordinated assault to forcibly take their money.

Described as three to four African-American males between the ages of 18 and 25, clad in dark clothing, the suspects continue to remain at large. The targeted locations span multiple blocks, including the 7100 block of South Champlain Ave., the 7200 block of South Langley Ave., the 6700 block of South Indiana Ave., and the 7200 block of South Green Ave.

In response, authorities are urging the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious behavior. "Always be aware of your surroundings," the police warn while also advising to never chase after an assailant but rather, to carefully note any distinctive features and to immediately contact law enforcement by dialing 9-1-1. Police emphasize the importance of remaining at the scene, if possible, to assist with the investigation.
