According to reports from The Chicago Sun-Times, the incident took place around 7:15 p.m. in the 1300 block of South Halsted Street, Hall, a resident of the 3800 block of South Wells Street, was struck by an unidentified vehicle that immediately fled the scene.

The victim was promptly transported to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:35 p.m. Despite immediate efforts, the driver involved has not been arrested, leaving local authorities to pursue an ongoing investigation into the matter.

A nearby business employee witnessed the event unfold, stating that Hall was attempting to cross the street when he tripped and was hit by the rear tires of a white van. "Others within the business saw what happened and went outside to help," the employee disclosed in an interview with CBS News Chicago. The van in question bore no markings and was described simply as plain white.
