Commuters on the CTA Red Line faced a violent scare last week, as police are now seeking the public's assistance to track down a man involved in an attempted robbery. According to the Chicago Police Department, the incident occurred early in the morning on April 29th at the Harrison Street platform, where a woman was assaulted and threatened for her belongings.
The assailant, described as a male African American between 25 and 35 years of age, struck the unsuspecting passenger with a closed fist without provocation, prompting her to run. He chased her down, hitting her once again and demanding her USC. The suspect was wearing a gray and blue stocking hat, a gray hoodie with the word "Bears" emblazoned across the chest, dark pants, and white shoes at the time of the attack.
Authorities, in an effort to apprehend the individual responsible, have released surveillance images and are asking for the community's help in identifying the man. The Chicago Police have set up a dedicated page for the public to report any information related to the case or potentially recognize the perpetrator shown in the photos.
In the meantime, the police have issued recommendations to riders: Always be aware of your surroundings, dial 9-1-1 to report suspicious activities immediately, and never pursue a fleeing assailant. They stress the importance of providing information to the police, but caution against direct engagement with potential offenders.
